Resurgence of Measles in Geneva !
Since the end of 2010, 26 new cases of measles have been diagnosed in Geneva. 60% of these were among adults. It is highly recommended that all adults under 47 years old confirm that they have received a booster vaccine and that all babies over 9 months old get vaccinated.
Measles is an infectious disease that appears mainly in late winter and early spring. It is highly contagious and spreads via the respiratory tract due to coughing or sneezing. The main symptoms are cough, conjunctivitis, colds, high fever and cutaneous rashes in the form of red patches that appear 3-4 days after the initial symptoms.
Long considered a childhood disease, measles now also affects young people and adults who have not been or are insufficiently protected from the disease. It is imperative to see your doctor for a consultation if you have any doubt in order to avoid spreading the disease. Measles can be dangerous and may cause severe complications, especially in children below two years and people in fragile health.
If a case is proven, a thorough investigation will be conducted by the Director General of Health for the Canton of Geneva to establish and monitor the epistemological evolution of the disease.

How to prevent seasonal allergies?
In Switzerland, 2 million people suffer from various different allergies. In the majority of cases, the health of the individual is also affected. The arrival of spring marks the beginning of the allergy season, particularly those linked to tree pollen and flowers. However, it is possible, to anticipate the problems that may be caused by allergens and to try to control them in advance of the symptoms. All allergies, no matter what the cause, are based on a complex interaction of factors that produce an over-reaction of the immune system. Our modern day lifestyle has further caused an increase in the number of people affected by allergies in recent years. Be it hay fever or insect venom, there are many causes of allergies and as many different clinical signs including: cold, asthma, itchy, watery eyes, skin irritations and vomiting. This includes information on symptoms, prevention and most notably, a forecast of daily pollen levels. The information is grouped together on a website (www.pollenallergie.ch) and updated daily.
